About Me

Hi! I’m Afton, the owner and teacher here at Rhythm Roots Music Studio. Before moving to South Carolina in the fall of 2023, I spent 13 years as a middle school choir teacher in Maryland and have been teaching lessons privately on and off since 2006. I have my bachelor’s degree in Music Education and my master’s degree in Kodaly Music Education which focuses on building strong foundations in music through play and folk music based learning. In my free time I like to read, crochet, and garden (though I haven’t started one here yet in SC). I am a curious person and enjoy learning new skills and taking on new challenges. I am so excited to re-open my studio here in Blythewood, SC so that I can continue to build community, explore new ideas, and create beautiful music with you!
